Notre très cher Frank McWeeny, animateur de French Toast sur FRL, a été nominé aux Sony Radio Awards 2012. Pour en apprendre plus sur Frank, j'ai demandé à Oli Pengilly de décrire son ami et collègue.
"J'ai rencontré Frank à la fac. C'est un bosseur : il était toujours dehors à interviewer des artistes et à rencontrer des personnalités de DnB (Drum and Bass) quand la plupart des étudiants n'étaient pas motivés et ne faisaient rien. Il aime et a vraiment mis au point son émission French Toast qui passait à la radio universitaire à
l'époque (c'était très populaire, il a du faire le DJ pour de nombreuses soirées universitaires).
Je ne l'ai vraiment connu qu'après la fac quand nous avons commencé à travailler ensemble à FRL et sommes devenus amis. On a commencé à faire l'émission Cross Channel Rap Battle pour Academy FM.
Travailler avec lui a été une chance et j'ai beaucoup appris car nous nous entendions tellement bien, on travaillait bien ensemble et nous nous poussions mutuellement à aller plus loin. Il a un moyen de rester calme même quand il est stressé. Enfin, le reste est de l'histoire ancienne, il y a quelques mois il a gagné un award SRA (Student Radio Awards -pour les stations universitaires) et était fou de joie.
C'est un homme qui a grandi de force en force quand la situation n'était pas forcément favorable.Est-ce que je suis jaloux et aigri? Certainement. Est-ce que je pense qu'il le mérite? Définitivement. Je peux dire que de tous les candidats nominés il est celui qui a dû bosser le plus pour réunir le matériel et les sons qu'il utilise. La plupart des jeunes DJs de nouvelles stations DAB n'auraient pas été acceptés. Frank l'a été et il aurait pu abandonner il y a longtemps. Ceci montre que même si on se fait jeter aux loups dans cette industrie, si on le veux vraiment et si on y travaille et on y met la passion, on peut y arriver.
Pour finir, je pense que c'est une sorte d'inspiration, un rappel que même si les choses ne vont pas toujours comme on le veux, si l'on croit en soi et pense positivement, qu'on est patient et qu'on abandonne pas, on PEUT y arriver !"

"I met Frank at Uni. He's quite hard working: he
was always out and about getting interviews with artists and meeting DnB (Drum and Bass) people when most of his fellow students didn't bother doing anything.
He genuinely cared about and shaped up his show French Toast which was on student radio at the time (quite popular too, he DJd at most Uni nights).
I didn't really get to know him properly until after Uni when we were at FRL together and when we started doing the Cross Channel Rap Battle rap show for Academy FM.
Working with him was rewarding and I learnt a fair bit as we bounced off each other well and both pushed each other to go further. He has a way though to always keep calm, even if really stressed. Anyway the rest is history, a few months ago he won an SRA (Student Radio Award) which he was ecstatic about.
He is a man who has grown from strength to strength when the chips were down.Am I Jealous and maybe a little bitter? You bet I am. Do I think he deserves it? Definitely, I can safely say that out of all the
candidates he has probably had to work the hardest to put his material and content together. Most up and coming DJs from young DAB stations would not have been accepted. Frank has and he could have walked away and quit a long time ago. This shows that even if you get thrown to the wolves in this industry, if
you want it badly enough and put in the hard work and passion for what you want, you'll make it.
Bottom line, I guess to me he is some sort of inspiration, a reminder that even if you get caught up in things, as long as you believe in what you're doing, think positive, be patient and don't give up you WILL succeed."
